probably a bad U-Joint. Check the driveshaft for play at the yokes.

Third-gen Camaros and Firebirds ('82 - '92) are notorious for breaking their tranmission mounts. I should know, I've owned three of them. The clunk you hear is the tailshaft of the transmission rising up and hitting the floorpan. Replace the mount with one made of polyurethane (as opposed to the stock rubber piece), and you won't have any more problems with it.

Check the engine and transmission mounts. When you put the car in gear the engine torks slightly. It rocks in its rubber mounts. If one is broken it will let the engine rock morre then it should and if this is the case it makes a clunk

Check it out.
Hope this helps

There may be two problems you can have. 1. the rear trans mount could be broken or loose. 2. the front U-Joint is bad.

yeah...you got some good answers from these guys here.....sounds like a U-joint, but it want hurt to take it to a service station and put it on a rack and see what's underneath. It could be something simple.....just check and retorque all the u-bolts and rear end

It could be the mounting. If it did it going into gear then maybe the U=Joints.

the joint in the driveshaft is bad, or the transmission or engine mounts could be bad
