1100 is a moderately strong score. It assumes your school will combine the Verbal and Math scores. Be sure to check with your school to find out if they also have minimums on each section.

There are hidden agendas and hidden patterns to the GRE. It is not just a matter of learning vocabulary for the Verbal section (in fact it is usually impossible to learn enough vocab to really increase your score. On the math section it is not just a matter of reviewing the basic math facts.

On the Verbal there is a specific reason why each correct answer is correct and all the other answers are dead wrong. It is not just that one is better. There is a black and white way to prove the answer.

On the math you need to learn a new set of tools for organizing very complex math questions. These tools are actually quite simple and intuitive but they are completely different from what you would use in a math class.

Learning how to use your time absolutely most effectively on the computer adaptive test is also critical, though not easy to learn on your own.

well the math section isn't terrible if you remember basic high school math (I got a 790 on the math section, and that was because I ran out of time on the last question). The verbal is hard, so I'd recommend getting one of those "Cracking the GRE" books and learning the vocab in that book. That'll help. Truth be told an 1100 total isn't impossible to get (in fact it's pretty easy to do if you study).

Try Princeton Review's "Crash Coure for the GRE" and take a few practice tests. Good luck!

Try taking the test at home. If you give yourself some extra time, you'll score higher.

Seriously, though, what is your current score? Changing it by one standard deviation would require a miracle. Commercial test prep is all a racket.
