My father in law is an 82 year old that is so hard to buy for, he doesnt need tools anymore and he doesnt like to get anything like colognes or bath stuff, he is the kind of guy if he needs something he will just go buy it, I am stumped on him every year at Christmas time, and so I usually put him off until last thing then run out and buy him something he dont like, any ideas would be very helpful? Thanks...

Here's something that he will always remember: contact your local flight school and get him a gift certificate for a half-hour "introductory flight". About $50. They will show him what all is involved with checking over the plane, explane how it works, and then take him in the air. Once a few thousand feet in the air, they will even let him steer it. They may even fly over his house and let him take pictures.
There is no pressure involved to learn. They realize it's not for everyone. Plus, they make a few bucks and even adds to their pilot's log for much needed airtime. It is a 'win-win- situation for both.

I've recommended this to friends before, and everyone who's done it LOVED it.

I wouldnt reccomend a gift card. Most elederly people are more happy to see you actually took the time to think of an actual gift. They would probably enjoy something they dont like over a gift card.

Im only saying this because you actually need to put thought into gettting an actualy gift. Gift cards usually = no thought.

In the last few years I have started getting all of the elderly folks on my gift list fun/fancy foods tailored to their tastes but something they would never spend the money on themselves. Expensive coffee or nuts or cheeses or sweets. Sometimes even a fancy liqueur. Most people that age just do not need another sweater but everybody's gotta eat, not matter how old they are!!

You can buy Cd's now with music from a certain year eg;1942 etc, or maybe ask him for names of some old time singers who he enjoyed and get him a CD. The sound quality would be so much better today and he may not have heard this music for decades.

What kind of music did he listen to in his prime? Try searching the web for music compilations for his era. Is he an avid reader? Buy him a gift card from a bookstore and offer to take him ( if he doesn't drive). Does he collect anything? warfare memorabilia? coins? stamps? Maybe add to his collection. Another idea is to collect photos from different times of his life, and to use them to make a slide-show with the appropriate music in the background and present it as a video. I hope I helped spark some ideas for you.

Well I have the perfect gift for a older aged person. I did this for my 74 yr old father in law and he just loved it so I did it again for my 86 yr old Grandma..At this age there memory starts to slip..So what I did was got together with my father in laws family and got old photos of him and his sibling and friends and made him a photo album and put little catchy saying with it..Like one was when him and his brother went fishing..And I just wrote Me (my father in law) and John when we were kids fishing at ole creek pond..Wrote it big enough he could see..And I did all his photos' like that ..I use old ones from when he was young and then new one with Grandchildren and all..It was a huge success both times I did it..Now when family comes to visit they want to share their albums. It like them just sitting back and telling the story of their lives..And they love to remember the stories..And I think it helps keep their minds active and not lose to much of their live with age..Good Luck..I'm working on 2 more right now...Thanks...

Most people like to take a walk back into the past and I found that music is the very best way to do that. You need to get him some music from his era. I think he'll love that.

dont buy ...GIVE....

when people reach that age your company is worth more than anything that you could possibly buy.

spend a day or so with him and just relax and talk and remember old times.

you will find this to be a much more valued gift than anything that you can give in a box.

I bet a Beta fish in his favorite color would be a nice gift that is low to maintain. Something that is living!
