If there was an assassination attempt on the pope or the pope was assassinated by an Islamic extremist, do you think this could/would spark a "holy war" between Christianity and Islam?

It would probably get lumped into 'terrorism' by the Bush administration and give him one more excuse for keeping doing what he's always intended on doing from the start. Frankly, I don't think it would actually make things much worse, it would be more like a media circus and an avalanche of propaganda in the U.S. It might actually save the GOP and give them another presidency as some voters in the U.S. would turn back to them over the 'terror' issue.

Europeans would probably simply treat it as a political crime, which is what it is. The old countries are, frankly, more mature, and less likely to be drawn into taking drastic measures by a couple of nutcases out to provoke the west.
