Being a fan of progressive rock, I had been listening to the american progressive rock band kansas lately. I saw them in concert a few times, and they put on a slamming live show!
Which era does anyone like? I prefer the first 8 albums with the original lineup; everything else after that (except for an album that reunited the whole original lineup a few years ago) ain't nothing as far as I'm concerned.

The lineup with Steve Morse wasn't bad although the Kerry Livgren band set the standard. The violin playing was ahead of its time. I especially like the acoustic guitar / violin interplay on songs like Dust In The Wind. Steve Morse is about the best guitarist around. I think he was more successful with the (Dixie) Dregs or his solo work though. Any band with Morse is going to be good.

I agree with you on that. I love the original band, but some of their stuff from the 80s and beyond was good. I also like the solo albums that Steve Walsh and Kerry Livgren did at that time as well. Kerry's new band, Proto-Kaw (which was actually an early version of Kansas), is great too!

Yes I have to agree nothing beats the original lineup, Kansas is one of the most underrated prog rock bands of all time, very unfair if you ask me... also the works with Steve Morse were pretty good, never as good as Dixie Dregs..and his solo stuff like in high tension wires ..amazing guitarist, one of the finest in my opinion, i even enjoyed him with Deep Purple..unfortunately nobody makes music like this anymore..well except for a couple of prog rock bands that are still recording and jamming..like KC well sorry i got carried away..
