I just love the word "ploygamous"! But I think that not only men are polygamous by nature. I think people aren't monogamous by nature. Being monogamous is a choice and a lot of people can't stick to that choice because it isn't in their nature. I'm not saying you should be sleeping around like rabbits, or that you can't choose to stay with one person your whole life, but I do think that monogamy is not a part of human nature. It's more something that society forces upon you. About seventy percent of men and about sixty percent of women claim to have had sex outside of their long term relationship at least once. So I think being monogamy is more of an exception to the rule than a rule itself.

Yes, they are. I'm very glad you asked this question in the GLBT section, because when a straight man sleeps with many different women they call him a player, but when a gay man does it, they say all gays re like that, or that gay men are wrong for sleeping around. But I was looking at Oprah, and one gay man on there said that it is in a man's nature to want to sleep around, so whether a man is gay or straight, they may still want to do it. Orientation is not going to change that. I'm sick and tired of gay men being made to feel wrong for something that straight men are put on a pedestal for.

Nope! Sorry. I've been a man all my life and had no inclinations to be with more than one person. Even before I knew I was gay, I felt like I was sort of "cheating" if I had friends other than my best friend. Now I realize the difference between romantic and platonic relationships, but I still feel the same way as far as it comes with romantic or sexual relationships. I'd say that it's true of most men, to be polygamous, but by no means is it true of me.

I would say by nature, yes, most men are polygamists. That doesn't mean t hey should run out and cheat on their wives, partners, or girlfriends/boyfriends though. There is such a thing as self-control.

Most of the guys you are talking about will eventually settle down.

This is proliferated throughout the animal kingdom (alpha-male thing). In most human cultures, men are exalted for their conquests, prowess and virility, while women are chastised for any similar feats.

In the long run, integrity and character (and health safety) are more prized in civilized society. I have trouble trusting a man that his wife cannot trust.

Are animalistic hormones powerful and uninhibiting? You betcha. Do human males have the capacity to respect their mates and associates and not "lower themselves" to the activity of lesser primates?

Respectable men have no problem doing that.

I think humans as a whole are polygamous by nature, not just men. Everyone...EVERYONE has that urge to be with more than just one person, whether they want to admit it or not. Monogamy is hard work, therefore I don't see how THAT could be natural. I'm not advocating promiscuity or anything, it's just my opinion of they way things are, lol.

not just men, but women as well, are kind of hybrid. some animals, most, are promiscuous, while a few, such as pigeons, mate for life. that is there very nature. humans are a little of both. we desire lifelong intimacy, yet we also want to stray. it is an internal conflict within pretty much all of the human speciese, male and female.

Actually, no. Polygamy is marriage to multiple wives. The term you are looking for is poly amorous, and as with most things, it depends on the man. I, for one, am naturally monogamous, for me that is what works. Other men make their own calls, that's what Free Will is all about.

Men aren't anything but human by nature. Gender is socially constructed. :O)~
What you are posing is the notion that sexuality is gender segregated based on biology. This is based on the male sex drive discourse which is actually the man-gender sex drive discourse. Discourse meaning story ^_~ based on rediculous stereotypes. And what a load of fiction! *chuckles*
