doctor said there will be a 80-85% recovery of hand function and the feeling will return within a year. is there anything to improve these chances through exercise, previous brain recognition of the usualy function done, remedies, herbal medicine, b12 vitamins, lots of water? anyone knows?

This happened to my boyfriend. The healing process was quite a while. But now his hand functions normally when he thought it never would. He wore a brace that covered his hand, wrist and forearm for almost a year. the brace had a stick like thing in the section that covered his palm.

Exercise is the key. A good physiotherapist and occupational therapist will get you going. I have also heard that acupuncture can be helpful in restoring feeling - but have no personal experience with this. I have a neuromuscular illness (genetic) myself and exercise is what keeps me going as well as I am when I should be in a wheelchair by now. Use it or lose it is key. Lots of water makes no difference. B12 can help only if you are tested and found to have a B12 deficiency.
Be very grateful for your 80 - 85% recovery prognosis. It was only a few years ago that neural pathways began to be reattached with any success and they have come such a long way in their success rate. You will have great function at 80%. Be happy.

I've heard of people during electric stimulus to speed recovery. You might ask your doctor about that.

A physical therapist can give you a workout and rehab plan to help it recover to it's full potential.
