13 miles per gallon in the city and 18 miles per gallon on the highway at cruising speed.

Must be buying a truck or a big three sports car?

One important factor to think about. Here is how they get those numbers that they advertise on the cars. They take a new car, put it in a building andplace it on a dyno. The car never has any wind acting on it to slow it down causing you to use more gas to keep the desired speed, nor does it have any hills to climb, forcing it to use more fuel. Even at that, in testing these cars indoors, it never goes through the start-stop cycles that you go thru every day in the city. So when they advertise a new car at 30 in the city and 40 on the highway, they are testing them @ 25 mph and 55 mph ( examples only ). Under perfect conditions. My suggestion would be to test the car for the day. Do your own gas Miles per gallon test, I bet it will be much different. Consumer Reports say the new cars are exagerated as much as 40% because of this. So don't believe everything you read.

When you drive within the city, your car needs more fuel per mile because of low speed, stops and traffic jams. 13 in your case means you can drive 13 miles per 1 gallon of fuel in the city.
On the other hand, if you drive your car in a highway, without stops at economy speed , you can drive 18 miles per each gallon you have in car tank.
Enjoy your new car.

Fuel economy simply means..how much you can travel on a litre of liquid gold. (how many miles or kilo-meters can be travelled by burning a litre of petrol...aka...gas)
