One month ago, I updated my Mcafee anti virus which was downloaded freely from internet. After two days, my computer has become dark. Very rarely I get colour pictures. I think it is because of phishing. How to recover from it?

don't think so,, If the whole screen on the monitor is getting dark or changing color it is a hardware problem not a software.

is it like that when the computer is booting? if yes , then your monitor is dying or it's connected very well.. try to tight the screws of the monitor cables on the rear of the monitor and your pc.

OK, first the obvious, adjust the brightness using the buttons on the front/side of monitor.

Now for the not so obvious:

Monitors do generally get darker as they get older. Overtime, some get completely black, some need to warm up for 30 minutes or longer before getting brighter. Some models seem more prone to this than others. Sceptre monitors seems to be especially bad in this area. Easiest way to tell is to try your monitor on someone elses computer. If it is still dark, you know your monitor is dying and it has nothing to do with your computer or "phishing".

Please don't be offended by this, but you might want to do a search on terms such as "phishing" and "pharming" to understand them better. They likely aren't trying to make your monitor dark. wikipedia.org is probably a good place to look.

If your monitor is bright on someone else's computer, then it is a problem with your computer. If this is so, it could either be:

1. Software based (problem with display settings or drivers, or another program messing things up).
2. Hardware based (problem with your actual video card or motherboard).

Phishing can in no way affect your monitor.
It's not IMPOSSIBLE for a virus to play around with your video in such a way, but it's rare.

Does your monitor have a factory reset function? If so, that'd be the first thing that I'd try. Also, older monitors have dials for the brightness and contrast.

It's also possible that your monitor is just nearing the end of its life. But don't dispair CRT monitors are cheap. You ought to be able to find one real cheap in the Pennysaver. I've personally witnessed dozens of working CRT monitors being thrown in the trash -- not beacuse they were broken; just because no one would take them for free. You should be able to get one for $25 if you look around.

There are several possible causes, but phishing is NOT one of them. Most likely your monitor is dying. Try a known good monitor -- borrow one from a friend if necessary -- and if that works, your problem is solved: Get a new one. If swapping out the monitor doesn't do it, your video card may be shot.

lol hmm.. for starters phishing site is a website that is faked as another one just to get your passwords or other personal information. For example Phishing site for yahoo is a logon webpage that looks just like yahoos webpage but when you enter your login name and pass it is sent over the web to someone else via scripts. Phishing has nothing to do with hardware problems.

For your problem there are 2 ways of solving it.
1.considering your monitor has recently gone dark check your gamma settings under display control panel.
2. Or it must be a hardware problem contact your hardware manufacturer.

Not likely phishing causing it. Have you tried to adjust the screen brightness with the controls on the monitor? Nearly all have buttons on the front, or just under the front edge to adjust brightness, contrast, screen width and height.
If you have a newer video adapter it can also be done in Control panel using video adapter properties.

Why are you using McAfee?? Use AVG instead. It, too, is free and just downright better.

Oh, and your monitor cannot be affected by phishing. People that phish only want your money and info.

Go here for a new monitor: http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=20
