Fossil fuels are free. When they are gone, we may go to other stuff, but right now, fossil fuels are still cheaper

We already use nuclear fission as an energy source.
In the the long term, it is not a practical solution. It's better than fossil fuels, but that's not saying much,

when we can trust each other with the ability to cover the earth with silent death.
the sun provides more than enough energy for our transportation needs, we simply have yet to harvest enough of it.
