I think I read somewhere a long time ago that of the three types of american bears, (polar, grizzly and black bears) only 1 of them can climb trees.

Is this true? And which one is it? I think it was the black bear.

Black bears can, yes. However, the smaller bears of other species can climb trees to escape bigger bears. Grizzly bears can't do it when they get older because they're way too big. Polar bears are the same way, and there are no trees in the artic.

I think there are a few asiatic bears that may climb trees.

Grizzlies and Polar Bears can not climb trees as they are too big, weighing close to a half a ton, they are the largest land carnivores in the world. However, many other beers can and do climb trees like Black bears.

The Black Bear only. Grizzly bears are to heavily built to climb trees and very rarely need ot anyway, as they are dominant predators, and there aren't many trees in the Arctic for polar bears to climb.

of the north american bears only the black bear is small enough at adulthood to climb a tree. Can you imagine a thousand pound grizzly or polarbear up a tree?

Oh there are other types of bears but I assumed you were talking about north american bears from the examples you gave.

The black bear for sure. The grizzly is too big and there are no trees in the Arctic where the polar bear lives.

It is the black bear. In fact black bear will climb trees to escape from grizzlies in the same area, since grizzlies will kill a black bear if given the chance.
