I grew up thinking 3 years was about right. The husband 3 years older than the wife. The reason being that women are more mature than men. Plus your school memories would be in the same time frame. Too far apart and it is hard to relate.

So, please tell me what you think.

I don't think we should allow society to dictate age restrictions in relationships. There is a 21 year age gap between my boyfriend and I (I'm 27). I have never been happier in my life. Just like with any relationship, it needs to have the essentials like trust, understanding, communication, interests, goals, etc. If those elements are in place, then nothing else matters. Love is the greatest feeling in the world, and age shouldn't stop anyone from experiencing it.

There's no hard and fast rule. I think most couples have a age gap of 5 years or less. My husband is 18 years older than I am, but it seems like we're happier and more energetic than most young couples we know.

My hubby and I are 5 and a half years apart.... Funny because in the past he was always attacted to older women (I'm younger) but it's worked out great. It's not to hard to relate, you make new memories as you go along.

my wife and i were born in the same year

her grandfather and step-grandmother we 24 years apart when they got married [70 and 56]

if all you want is a civil union, then maybe the age gap matters

if you are in love with someone, age no longer matters. the only thing that matters is how you spend your time together with each other

It all depends on the person, really. It sounds REALLY generic, but it's true. My husband and I are almost 6 years apart, and it seems about fine. I still think I'm more mature, heheee, but it's also the way you are raised, your family, and your own personality. When you meet that person, then you'll know.

My mom was 2 yrs older than my dad. My hubby is 4 yrs older than me. My sister in law is 5 yrs older than my brother. My other sister in law is 10 yrs younger than my other brother. A friend of mine is 21 yrs younger than her husband.

What does it matter?

I find any more than 10 years a bit yuk. But think that it is up to the couple involved.

My mom is 52 and my step dad is 32, he's the nicest person and treats my mom very well. I don't think age matters.
