Sure. They might cover their ears and run out screaming, but it wouldn't be a difficult feat. I've sung a song I wrote on stage in front of 200 people. Singing it in front of 2000 wouldn't be any different.
The secret is this: I used to be a stripper. Anything I can do on stage where I get to keep all my clothes on is a walk in the park after dealing with all those drunken lounge lizards who think their beer-belly, beer breath self is God's gift to women.

If I was going up there as a singer, with some credibility as an artist, then heck yeah. Especially if you have a well-noticed name, people would be more apt to be open to your music and enjoy it. Even more so if they already know the song and lyrics.

If you are some no-name musician, people may be less apt to listen, take it seriously, etc... They also probably wouldn't be as excited (you're not a celebrity)...

Just my personal views...I think it would be more nerve-wracking to sing on stage as a no-name, rather than a famous musician.

No, I couldn't. I don't think it's difficult for the people who do it, though. It's more exciting to them than anything, the more people, the better, it's a pump for them. It's also their business, and that's what they like to do. I admire them, 'cause no way would you get me up there! And, most of them are very very good at it!

I've done so, and it's not that difficult.
Especially on some stages which have lighting that shines so brightly on the stage you can't see anything past them so it almost looks like an empty auditorium.

depends on oneself actually. personally, i can't and wouldn't sing in front of my friends. 2,000 strangers would be a big NO! i just sing when i am driving and listening to my favourite songs played on the radio.....

I reckon I could probably do it, but I dont think the audience would appreciate it as I would most likely be out of tune.

I could, but by the time I was about finished, I think everyone would be gone - except maybe for one very old, deaf lady.
