Linear measurement volume or water displacement volume. Why?

both are accurate. however, they are applied to things differently.
linear measurement for regularly-shaped one's and displacement for the irregularly shaped ones...

in linear measurement volume of a cylinder you have two possible errors one for the radius and the other for the height. in water displacement volume you have only one possible error for reading the volume os water displacement volume is more accurate.
