The Pope was right. He was trying to say that violence has no place in religion. The Catholic Church did do a lot of bad things back in the middle ages. The problem is that the Islamists still have a medieval mentality but have access to 21st century weapons.

What kind of a freakin Pope makes such remarks, seriously? This guy has no idea what the heck he is talking about. The previous Pope was a true man of religion, and even when a guy from a Muslim country was about to kill him, he forgave him, and look at the new Pope. He doesn't know crap about nothing and yet he's still talking. I wonder if he is ever reading any newspapers or watching television to know what kind of a deep @#$% the world is in. Does he have any idea? Whatever his opinions are he should keep them to himself, especially when it comes to such sensitive subjects such as religion. What was his point of bringing up what happened thousands of years ago anyway? Did anybody ask him his opinions about history of Islam? These things are just so unnecessary. Everyday some place is getting bombed by these crazy freaks who claim to be Muslim, and others in the world just give them what they want, a few bad jokes about "their" religion, or some kind of agitation, and then we lose a few more innocent people somewhere in the world. Is it worth it, seriously? I sort of agree with your prediction. I don't know if the terrorists will necessarily go after Vatican, but at this point I am pretty sure there will be some kind of an attack somewhere, because these bastards are freaking blood thirsty, all it takes for them to make some sort of a scene is a comment or two.

Doubtful.
No matter what religion one is, there is a respect for the most religious of locations. No one attacks the Wailing Wall, no one goes about the Vatican to cause harm. . . Now, they might think about an assassination attempt (been done before to other popes), but in Vatican city? Not with all of the witnesses around. And the place is so big, there would be no way they could get to the Pope without getting inside and into the same room. Good luck with that one - the security there is much better than ours.

Your prediction is not a real one. You seen that on the news earlier to night. It is on yahoo news right now. The ever so Evil Islam already promised to send the Pope people who love to die as much as he loved to live. Meaning suicide bombers. The evil Islam already burn 5 churches.
And all the Pope did was quote what someone said a hundred years ago. Or maybe it was a quote from 1000 years ago.. Point meaning that it was just a quote and if just one word from the Pope can start these crazy people to killing and burning churches when they run over a 6 year old boys arm for stilling food and they cut peoples heads off and blow up 3000 people because they don't like Americans. Well what did you expect?
All religion needs to be eradicated. No way around it so lets get the holy war started so maybe they can kill each other out. Maybe we can have the 1000 years of peace after.
Why should he say sorry if it was the truth?

The pope was being very kind in his commentary about the Muslims. The Koran actually does state that there should be a holy war against non-believers. In this war, the loser should be granted one of three choices: conversion to Islam, ransom, or death. Incidentally, Allah is the same God as known to the Jews (Yaweh or Jehovah) and The Father known to the Christians.

Of course the pope was correct in his quoting. He was trying to encourage more dialog amongst religions but the Muslim leaders have once again shown their true colors. They don't want to **** with the Pope. Not a good thing.

He was wrong and he has apologized. But it's kind of like fa&ting in a very public place, you can't take put it back where it came from, and if it's a real big stinker, some people might not appreciate it. It's worse if you do in church, everybody smell your pew! Pope better figure a way to apologize. Can't take it back now and has to deal with it.
Not like here, those damned televangelists spout off about how evil most of are every time they get a chance.

he meant that religion has lead to many wars in the past. that's all he meant.
he did mention islam but he didn't mean that the teachings of muhammad promoted violence..
and there was no reason for such a negative response from them.
although he should have reviewed that quote more thoroughly before saying it.

It amazes me that the Muslims think they can and do say whatever they want about any other religion, but if anyone says something negative about them, they start killing people and burning down buildings. The Pope has every right to say whatever he believes to be true. More power to him!

The Pope should take into account the severly bloody history of the Catholic Church, one of the greatest perpatrators of horrors, torture and death in the entire world. Less people have died at the hands of Muslim extremist's. Millions upon millions have been killed by the Catholic Church, but they did it in the name of God. When the Catholic Church publicly apologizes for the Inquisition and the Crusades, I will listen to his babble about other religions.
