eMachines bought out the company called Gateway computers 2 years ago. I used to be an software instructor for Gateway Computers. They are the same company now.

I can tell you that Gateway Computers, from a hardware and parts standpoint, really have wonderful warranties, are affordable and have excellent customer service and technical support staff.

I talk with IT professionals all the time, and none of them would ever recommend getting a Dell. Reason being, often Dells are refurbished with used parts, in order to keep prices low for the consumer. Also, Dell's support staff are not very user-friendly, and often the support person's native language is not English, which makes it difficult to understand them while trying to get help.

Same company, like HP and Compaq. It's really more about name recognition and what you are willing to pay for the name.
