I dunno, engineering, investment, or architecture. I thought about writing to Donald Trump, hehe. Mentor, do they really do that? What kind of CEO has the time to do that?

Okay, here's a non-silly answer. The best way to become CEO of a company is to start your own company and just BE the main executive. If you have some technical knowledge, work on your ideas until you come up with something venture capitalists will find attractive. If you want to start something like a truck parts distributing empire, you must learn something about competition and how to operate in a competitive environment.

I know a woman who started at age 16 with a piece of land at a highway intersection that she talked her uncle into giving her for christmas one year. She developed a business plan and saved all her money. Finally she was 18 and borrowed some money with the help of the US Small Business Administration, who were impressed with the detail work she had done. She angled for help from family and friends and for bargains and inside connections. For example, her boyfriend's father was in the paving business, and cut her a deal.

She built a gas station and a convenience store on that lot, and managed it carefully. In 5 years there were 3 of them, and in a decade there were 25 of them. She made a fortune, and died of cancer at age 42. Anything can happen.

If you are interested in trying the entrepreneurial route, visit the Small Business Development Center at your local community college, or look up the Small Business Administration. Look up SCORE, the service corps of retired executives. There are lots of people out there that can help you.

If you want to rise to the executive level in an existing company, be very conventional and political, and be prepared to practice office politics to the max. Be ready to take credit for other people's good ideas, and stab your co-workers in the back on a daily basis. Also be prepared to give a few blow jobs and otherwise make yourself indispensible to the top brass.

A basic college degree is all you need. The main thing you need to rise to the top is the willingness to run right along the line between legality and criminality, and to hurt other people a lot. If you think I am kidding, watch the business news and see who our leaders are these days.

Sorry, but that is true. If you own your own business, you will have many opportunities to be a SOB, but in general you will emerge with a clearer conscience. It's worth a try.

First what type of company do you want to work for? Go there, ask for an appointment with the CEO, and see if he would mentor you. Donald Trump has a book out regarding this. And yes... some CEO would be flattered and do this if you make the effort. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Maybe an MBA, but don't base your descision on what I said.
It may be better to start your own business, then you can make your own descisions and boost the economy.
