The word used most often is light.

Aluminum is considered a light metal.
Oil or wood is lighter than water (less dense, thus it floats).

Good question. One thing I know for a 100% fact is that the correct answer is NOT porous. Light is what everyone calls it, but less dense or low density is more precise.

There are lots and lots of them, depending on the sense in which it is meant. They include meager, porous, scant, sparse, thin, deserted, empty, light, small, unsubstantial, tiny, uncongested, barren, uninhabited, uncrowded. Also alert, clever, intelligent, quick, sharp, smart, advanced, brilliant, developing, bright, thinking, brainy, educated, knowledgeable, prudent, responsible and sensible. And delicate, kind, nice, refined, sensitive and tactful. And soft. And clear and plain. Finally yielding. And there are more.

Scientists most often use the phrase "low density". That is more precise than the choices given above, which have many meanings.

There really isn't a good word in this sense, the closest would be sparse.
