Yes in 1965 I was in Ochos Rios Jamaica. It was a liberty call port when I was on a Carri bean cruise with the Marine Corps. Jamaicans are terrific people, I enjoyed it very much.

Jamaica gets a bad wrap from it's capital Kingston. Kingston is 2 - 3 hours away from the "tourist areas". Anyone you talk to who says they went to Jamaica and hated it....stayed in a cheap hotel/motel. Jamaica isn't the place to say "It doesn't matter where we stay". If you want to go cheap and stay in a dive hotel then you are better off remaining in the US. So please, quit spreading lies about how Jamaica as a whole is NOT safe, it just isn't true.

A lot of people just don't understand international travel. Jamaica isn't anymore dangerous than Mpls, Miami, LAX, Chicago, etc.

You just have to be smart and have common sense, which some people over the years I have seen extremely lack in this area. Jamaica is more known for petty crime to happen there due to many areas poverty stricken. Unfortunately you stay cheap and you will lack in security, thus the petty crime, thus the tourists coming back and saying it isn't safe.

Jamaica IS the 2nd top honeymoon destination, Hawaii being # 1. So they MUST be doing something right......They have some very beautiful resorts there. You don't have to stay in the most expensive one there, but again THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO CHEAP. Remember the saying..."You get what YOU pay for". In anything, same with travel. Funny how some people are ok with everything else in life going up in price, but when it comes to travel oh no. What do you mean $99.00 dollar RT Vegas flights are gone! What, you mean I have to pay $250.00 dollars! Gasp! LOL it's hilarious really! Travel IS going up in price. If you are unable to spend what will ensure you a good holiday I suggest staying home and driving somewhere or going camping.

Anyways the rest I want to say is better left to another question =)

No, I haven't been there, but I have a friend from there. Also know people from there living in Canada. I've heard Jamaica to be a quite beautiful country. My sister has been to Jamaica with her friends, and I have seen the pictures. I love their food and drinks -- the dancing there is also so good. I like the way they talk, too. Hopefully, one day that I get to visit Jamaica. But only time will tell, and if a friend has accommodation for me at low cost, I'll make sure to make my stay comfortable, I'm sure he'll make sure, too, in that case. I've heard about Kingston, Montego Bay... I want to know more about that country and someday that will happen when I go there.

My wife and I went for our 5th anniversary to Couples in Ocho Rios. Fantastic place with so much natural beauty! I just came back from Hawaii, and I'd rather go back to Jamaica any day.

Yes, it is very beautiful there. We stayed in Negril, down the coast from Montego Bay. I wish that it was a safer country, I would have went back. But we were in an all-inclusive, which was nice, but everytime we did tours or went off the property, I did not feel safe. Lots of wierd things would happen. IE: our bus stopped in the middle of a ghetto one night by Rick's cafe and the driver told us all to get off, all but 6 of us stayed on. Locals were on the side of the road watching us...very creepy. All the sudden he told everyone to get back on and that was that. Very wierd. It is not a safe island, unfortunately, what a shame.

I was there 2 months ago and wish I was still there. It is a beautiful and lush island country and the people are very friendly. We hope to return next year.
