P!atD are incredibly overrated. First and foremost, they were signed to Pete Wentz's (bassit of FOB) label without a demo, or without any music being heard at all. That's the first warning sign right there. Secondly, P!atD have an utter lack of originality that plagues their music. They sound like a mash up of every other poppy Post-Hardcore band - who are also utterly indebted to the whiney Post-Punk of the 1980's - to ever make millions off of tapping into teenage angst-ridden melancholy with oversimplified hooks, boring guitar lines made of pure crunch, and a grating flair for the poorly-written overdramatic.

In terms of sheer songwriting, P!atD bring aboslutely nothing new to the table, and when they do try to be creative, they end up with repetitive, jumpy melodies that would make any person with even a shred of knowledge of Musical Theory cringe. For instance, the line "Haven't you heard of/closing the god damn door" is prone to poorly-written leaps. Also, the idea of "hey, let's add a three-note pizzicato string line, because it's dramatic" is annoying as hell. And whatever happened to real, meaningful lyricism? P!atD once again ride on the coattails of their forerunners in that their lyrics are either horrifyingly obvious and riddled with uninteresting storytelling or clunky metaphors in an attempt to add some sort of mystifying depth and further pull the wool over the eyes of the foolish listener. And the fact that when I heard the voice singing the lyrics to me and couldn't differentiate between his and FOB's lead singer... well, that just puts the icing on the bore-fest, unoriginal cake.

P!atD are, in short, sell-outs that write music simply to appeal to our vacuous, brainwashed youth in our wonderful, trend-whoring daydream nation. Speaking of which, I would advise the youth of today to stop listening to such unoriginal grabage and buy Sonic Youth's "Daydream Nation" - an album created by true musicians, and that actually meant something in 1988 and still has signifigance today. P!atD are meaningless in the grand scheme of things, just another band that puts money well before any scrap of artistic integrity, who will likely be entirely forgotten in ten years. They are a bunch of generic musicians who just can't see that they really aren't that good at writing or playing music, or just don't care.

Very over-rated. The music they compose in the studio is awesome, no doubt about that; however, their live performance is a joke. The reason they have all the theatrics is to make you focus on something other than the hundreds of mistakes they make. You never know though, it may be nerves. They came out of nowhere and are playing to sold out crowds in arenas every night. I'd be crapping myself and completely overwhelmed if overnight success exploded for me. Maybe they'll come around and mature and realize that everyone loves them, and there's no reason for them to be nervous. Then again, they could actually flat out suck, but I can't believe that considering their album production.

P!ATD is not over rated!
I think they have some interesting lyrics. and i think they have some great vocals and a diffrent sound o fmusic, it doesn't sound like everythother band out there. i think they are a very good band. now how long it took them to get FAMOUS is a little too fast in my opinion cuz look at bands such as Kill Hannah. Kill Hannah is a great band! but they have been around for a few years like prolly since like 1995 or something like that. and they have been working reallllllllly hard. and they are really awesome but they aren't all that famous. i am just wondering howcome some bands seem to have a easier time getting famous then others.... but either way P!ATD is good i like them! here if you wanna check out KH go ahead. lol. http://www.purevolume.com/killhannah

I do think they are bad. Reminds me of a lot of overdramatic 80's bands.
