You used present tense when saying "She has ten apples". You used past tense when saying "She gave away five apples". Therefore, she must have had 15 apples to start with then gave away 5. Now she has 10 as you said.

I know everybody say the answer is 5. However there must be a trick behind it. What if she collect some more apples before gave away 5. I wonder.....so I'm not sure about this. If is direct answer, is gonna be 5.
