I can't find that Barry Goldwater ever lied, and he's been dead for a decade.

Modern politicians are all sound bytes on television --all deception and, when necessary, lies. They are social climbing power junkees who get in and stay in politics because they make a first impression of being likeable.

Bush never lying? BUSH?! George W. "We do not torture" Bush?

Bush has told more lies than the truth. He lies so much he forgets what he said!

Trust a politician? Sometimes they can help pull strings...but trust? No! I probably would have trusted Jimmy Carter, JFK, or Robert Kennedy!

You tell me if Bush has ever lied!

"Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations."
—Bush, during the final presidential debate, attempting to refute Kerry’s claim that the president boasted he was not concerned about Osama bin Laden.

"So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him... We haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."
—Bush, answering a question about Osama bin Laden at a March 13, 2002 news conference.

I'll bet there are no more than 5 or 6. Is pretty sad really that we have come to accept this from out leaders.

One of them is Joe Lieberman. I lived in Connecticut over 30 years and know Joe pretty well (not personally, just politically) and while I strongly disagree with him on the war, I believe him to be a man who says what he means and means what he says.

I truly has the interest of the people of Connecticut in his heart.

Really good question -
It's only naive if you know nothing about the person within whom you are placing your trust. If you follow their political path (voting record, speeches, achievements), then you can garner some indication as to predictable behavior. After some assessment as to their record, character, etc., then you can make a decision as to what your response to them will be. It is actually possible to trust a politician with whom you have absolutely no political currency in common, but you can at least count on their integrity, consistency. Doesn't mean you will vote for them, much less agree with them, but you can at least trust them. For me, Christine Todd Whitman falls into this camp, as did Barry Goldwater.

When a few politicians get into office they are honorable men who really try to help their constituency; however, after being in office for awhile they begin to spin and then lie outright. It is the nature of politics.

Unless you are a person who has never lied, don't be so quick to condemn all politicians as if none of them can ever be trusted.
