I am wondering how to clean a shower that has major dirt and ground in dirt throughout. My elderly father has been using a "cleaner" in his home with some kind of wax or rubber or something that has absolutely made cleaning impossible. The dirt and hard water stains are absolutely ground in and do not come off with the household sprays I used. I went to try to help him clean up the place, and found this disaster. Clorox disinfecting wipes, Windex, and CLR did not work. There has to be something better to strip that layer off to get to the dirt underneath. Is there like a stronger acid or something cleaner I can use? He has hard water which complicates things. Any help or advice is appreciated, I'm desperate, it needs to get clean!

I always recommend KBS Aquaklean b/c I've used it with amazing results. Comes as a concentrate so you can make a strong solution of it. Tough enough to remove wax buildup and stubborn dirt & grime. See page.

When my wife and I moved into our home after the last people that has lived here the tub was discusting. She used Mr. clean magic eraser which doesn't scratch off the coating on the tub,and got all but the rust stains from the well water. It also worked on the our high chair which is plastic that we had stored away for 3 and half years, and it removes crayon from any surface.Thoses things are amazing. If your not worried about the scratching the coating of the tub the is a rectangle shaped stone that is good for the rust. I can't remember the name of it but it should be with cleaning supplies in the store, if you can't find it try lowes.

I also recommend the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. You might need to use more than one, because they shrink down during use. Tonight on TV I saw a commercial for an extra-strength version.

This sounds like a terrible cleaning problem!

Dowel Foam Bathroom cleaner is GREAT! You just spray on, let sit a couple minutes, and wipe off. Repeat if necessary. You will be pleasantly surprised. :) Arum

I had a renter move recently and the shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned sense she moved in, it was completly gross. I tried bleach and all that other crap, but what worked was comet, a greenie (those green scrub pads) and a lot of elbow grease.

Good luck

Use muratic acid, then flush it down with clear water. Be careful it has fumes, I recommend using a fan when you are pouring.
