My 7mo daughter is currently on antibiotics for an ear infection, and has been for over a week. In the last few days, she gets angry whenever I try to feed her. She still drinks milk/breastfeeds just fine, but she refuses to eat solids. For example, all she ate today was approx. 4 spoonfulls of sweet potatos. She normally eats much more. Should I be worried about this? Should I try to force her to eat? Or avoid the confrontation?

Don't worry about it at all. She probably just feels bad. It's also possibly that the abx are making her nauseous, and the breastmilk is the best thing for that. When she feels better, she'll be more interested in other things.

Anyhow, babies don't *need* solids, nutritionally speaking, for the first year. They get their needs met from the breastmilk (or formula)- solids before a year are just for fun and practice.

As a side note, you might consider feeding your baby a little acidophilus, or live culture yogurt (if she'll have it). Antibiotics are rough on the good bacteria in your gut (hence the nausea and not feeling good that can accompany), and acidophilus can help make that better.

Don't make a battle out of eating. Your baby has been ill and not eating solids well, but is taking her milk. As your baby gets better she will begin eating again. As long as she takes in enough fluids so as to not become dehydrated and the ear infection is improving, she should be doing fine. If you have any major concerns, direct them to your childs healthcare provider so the two of you (who know your baby best) can determine what is the best thing to do for her.

Good Luck! Mom of 4 and a healthcare professional

Don't force her. Just be patient and try again in a couple of days. If she refuses, don't make a big deal out of it. It's probably the meds / ear infection at work here. As long as she's nursing, don't worry so much. Try putting in some rice cereal in her bottle and shake it up so she gets the nutrients she needs at this stage.

She might not be eating right now because it might be hurting her when she swallows.Maybe the food that you are giving her stings her throat. That is why she choose to drink and not eat her regular food. For now, why don't you try putting a few spoonfuls of baby oatmeal, rice cereal, and/or mixed cereal inside her bottle to fill her up. When she feels better, she is going to be her old self and eating again so don't worry too much..

If she isn't eating solids it is probably because of her ear infection. She doesnt feel good!
If she is still taking milk she is still getting her nutrients and she will be fine. She will probably go back to solid food when her ear infection is gone.

The fact that she is on atibiotics could be changing the taste of her food. As long as she is drinking her milk that is fine.
good luck!

She will eat when she is hungry. I wouldn't worry too much unless she starts losing weight.
