I'm a professional piercer and I can tell you for certain that if done properly (and on the ear lobe), it will not hurt. Cartilage piercings do hurt, but lobes are not bad at all. By 'done properly' I mean without using a gun. Go to a piercing/tattoo shop, not some booth in the mall. A gun is spring loaded and uses too much force. It also can pinch the ear between the front and back parts of the stud. A proper piercing should be done with a surgical needle and a hoop style ring is used. The hoop makes it easier to clean because you can rotate it and the larger front and back of a stud can collect dried blood that will cause infection.

Believe me it doesn't hurt, I had mine done when I was 6, and I didn't know they did it! Afterwards your ears just feel a bit warm and may thump a little but that will soon wear off, if she's really scared of the pain ask them to numb it but if they don't buy some numbing or freezing spray from a shop like boots or superdrug. A good shop for children's ear piercings is Claire's, they give scared children teddies to cuddle and then give them a lolly after wards for being brave, and they get a sticker! So that calms the children down a bit, hope it helped!

i have had my ears pierced 4 times. 2 in each ear. It does not hurt AT ALL. I think the hardest part is when their trying to line the gun up with where you want it. The anticipation just drives you crazy, because you think it's going to hurt and your waiting and waiting and waiting. Then when they finally do it, your scared crapless. But other than that no pain. Maybe some very little stinging after wards, but it's more of an irratence than pain.

It does hurt and she shouldn't get her ears pierced if she doesn't want to. I had mine done when I turned 5. It hurt and I got tears, but I did not cry. My father put alcohol on the holes and turned the studs every night for me. It stung a little. I am now 34 and the holes in my ears are all I have left of my grandmother. She soon afterwards and that is really all I remember of her (other than coloring Easter eggs one time and her offering me Twinkies from her camper that she had in a field outside of her house).

It does hurt initially but its more like a shock and doesnt last long.
Wait till she starts to wax and pluck her eyebrows!!
that hurts more than ear piercing.
Tell her it hurts for about 1 second but you get more of a shock than anything...see if you can both sides down at the same time...
thats what I'm going to do for my 3 year old.

It's a pinch and it hurts for like a few seconds. No one has died from the pain so it's really not that bad. However, why is she being forced to get her ears pierced? If she's that scared, why not wait a few years?

It seems that the "clicking" sound of the piercing instrument scares little kids more than anything else.
I took my daughter, age 7, shopping first and let her choose some cute earrings to wear after her ears healed. She started to cry after the first pierce so I talked about how pretty the earring (stud) looked on her. She did just fine when the other ear was pierced. All smiles and couldn't wait to get home to show them off.

It doesn't hurt it just pinches when the back of the earring closes on her ear but just for a second tell her she has nothing to worry about. And after she get her ears done you can take out for ice cream and buy her some new earrings to wear after she ears heal.

Awwww tell her don't worry! My 1 yrs old niece got one and she was fine! Right before she gets her ears pierced, put ice on the ear for a few minute to numb the ears! It helps not to feel the little pinch pain that she might have!

It hurts a little, but nowhere near as much as wearing clip-on earrings for the rest of her life would. Heck, I would say wearing clip-ons for a couple hours hurts more than getting your ears pierced.
