Roger Petes has got it. Men are more likely to die in accidental death and are more likely to be sent to battle and war to die there too. Y sperm is less hearty than X sperm, a female baby also is more hearty than a male. My mom took care of a baby girl who was 24 weeks. She said if it was male, the baby would not have lived, but since it was female, it had a very small chance. Adult women are also more hearty than adult males so that adult women can protect and keep alive their children and them. Women also live a little longer, but that gap is slowly closing. All of this together leads to their being more females than males on earth. The difference is not so extreme though than men will become extinct.

Each person has 2 sex chromosomes. A female has 2 X chromosomes. And a male has an X and a Y. To produce a female, you need 2 X's but to produce a male, you need an X and a Y. When a female and a male mate, there is 3/4 chance of getting a girl versus a 1/4 chance of having a boy. That's why there are born girls born into the world.

It completely other way round in India. There are more boys than girls. Current ratio is every 1000 boys, 870 girls in some part of India, specially Gujrat, Punjab, Patna or maninly nothern part of India. It may worsen if it continues like these because boys will not find a girl to marry.

Boys will never face extinction. They need so many women to look after them!

In fact in some countries, where women are not valued, there are more boys than girls. (China for example)

Women must take the initiative and start teaching their sons to be more self sufficient.

You see, X and Y make a male and X and X make a female. Nowadays, Y is weaker so X has a higher chance. Yes this means males are facing extinction someday.

In Fort Lauderdale, where I have lived my entire 34 years, there are more boys than girls! No doubt. Not only in my circle of friends, but ..... every time we go out, there are always a lot more men than girls by 5 to 1. And, .... most all my friends have had baby boys.

It boils down to evolution. Males can impregnate many to carry on genes. Females can only provide for one at a time. To maintain genetic diversity you need more females than males.

Not likely. That tide will change in a couple of years, and male births will out number female births. It goes back and forth.
