Hwy 93 in AZ is closed with police stop/check point right as you head north on 93 out of Kingman heading towards the Dam and Vegas- they are stopping and restricting passage of traffic to only those that live in Dolan Springs, white hills and chloride- and that is due to "crash at Hoover Dam" -so the flashing message board says- and the agent on duty stopping people at this new checkpoint-said it was "Cranes -(yes-plural) collapsing and covering everything-power is out and well...thats why"- ---seems alittle odd I cant find any current info on it and it happened between 5pm and 8pm friday 9-15-06 and its been blocked off and traffic re routed and checked- since that time- and all traffic that happens to be allowed passage past this new stop check point setup is being turned around near mile marker 25-near Rosie'sDen and not permitted beyond there at all!!!! DO YOU KNOW WHY? OR HAVE ANY INFO OR LINKS THAT CAN HELP ME FIND OUT INFO ON IT?

Pls post any links.....Is there any photos or footage of the crash-collapse-and at what time of day? And what is taking so long for the cleanup-removal of the site? Its been well over 24hrs- and I live in this area and use to travel across the dam every day for work for years-I know how matters get hushed- and how "recovery" is expedited-and this seems a little out of the norm as far as response time.....actually quite out of the norm... and the procedure protocol is quite different- anyone have any ideas of resourceful links- pls post any and all material on what u know or have found-....&hit me up on my 360 page if u want with any debate-Do you know when the tentative time of reopening the hwy is???

On Friday afternoon, September 15, 2006, two tower cranes, located on opposite sides of the Colorado River Bridge construction, fell due to a high wind burst. One tower crane and attached cables fell onto the US 93 highway on the Nevada Approach necessitating the complete closure of US 93 in both directions at the Hoover Dam.

Traffic is being re-routed on to US 95 to State Route 163 to Laughlin on the Nevada side and on to State Route 68 at Kingman on the Arizona side until further notice.

At the time of the wind burst, the workday had ended and no injuries were reported as a result of this accident.

The tower cranes, forming dual high lines, were constructed for delivery of materials used in both foundation structures and the main arch crossing. Photographs of this delivery system can be viewed in the Construction Photo Album on this website.

A project team will assess the damage and take immediate corrective actions in order to re-open US 93 and resume construction activities on the bridge.

socalgal just about sums it up. I just want to add though that I was visiting my sister in Las Vegas and headed to the Hoover Dam on Sunday and was told that it was closed and we had to turn around and head back towards Las Vegas to get on the 95. I gotta tell ya.. it was very frustrating! They should have really put up some more signs saying it was closed. Plus, trying to cut to Kingman on the 95, it was backed up. My trip home back to Phoenix took seven hours, which it should only take 4 1/2.
