you have the Federer/Nadal rivalry, but nothing more....and they're not the most charismatic people........remember Connors/McEnroe, Becker/Edberg, Sampras/Agassi, and others as well......and now Agassi is gone............have people lost their appeal for tennis?

Tennis lost it's charisma a long time ago. Much like most professional sports, the majority of the big name players are more concerned about their public/corporate images than letting the fans see/hear what they really think. Watch any cliche filled interview on the sports channel of your choice for proof. It's hard to pick a big name in any major sport that really speaks their mind or plays with their heart on their sleeve the way the old John McEnroe types did.
When the corporate $$ disappear if you don't toe the line, it would appear as though you toe the line.
Mens tennis in particular has been ruined by the advent of high tech equipment resulting in far too many matches being decided because one player can serve a gazillion mph every time. No one wants to watch an ace-athon which is why women's tennis is more entertaining than mens. The skirts help too. LOL

Tennis is just fine. It only seems that way because one guy is dominating the game right now. Nobody even comes close to King Roger. Except maybe Nadal, but that's only on the red stuff. Safin's win in Australia last years seems to me to be a fluke. Federer playing below par, Safin playing above par at the same time. Lucky Safin... People love rivalries, it sure adds to the drama, the intensity. With one guy dominating everything, there will be no such thing. To add to this is the absence of great American players at the moment. All that the best Americans can do right now is get ONE set from Federer. With the Americans out of the picture, so goes the American audience. It is just fine though as I said. Someone will come up with the answers to Federer, that'll be the day interest perks up again. Let's just hope the next great hope will be American, and God forbid, not a Russian or a Frencman or such...It may be also cool to see how far Federer goes in challenging the records of the past greats and if he gets there before he is seriously challenged.

I find watching professional men's tennis as boring as watching paint dry. I could care less.
I remember Ile Nastase. Great player, nut case. You wanted to watch him play because he was great, but you knew he was always ready to implode, and that made it fun.
Jimmy Connors, Roscoe Tanner, the great Bjorn Borg. Later, Mcenroe.
These guys were real men, with charisma and personality, unlike these bland current players.
I watch ladies tennis. Its more interesting and I love to look at the babes. Thats the main reason I watch. Sharapova is a dish!
Tennis is almost a dead sport as far as I am concerned. And there is no way the men should make more than the women. Not too many people care anyway.

According to statistics, tennis is growing in players and as a spectator sport. Tennis has NOT lost it's charisma, it's greatest players are just changing like in all sports.

Yes. Without Federer/Nadal, there seems to be no character, emotion or talent like there used to be in the 80's and 90's.

I think overall, as a pro sport, tennis has lost the appeal. But at my high school everyone is trying it and loving it because we have a girl that is a pro level player.

Actually I think tennis is getting a little more attention then before, but the names that everyone knew were Venus and Serena but they aren't popular anymore. At the high school level though it is getting bigger.

After Monica Seles and Jim Courier left playing i lost interest because who so ever came after them were a two days champion who rather giving attention to their game indulge themselves in rumours to remain in limelight.
Now this game is a boring one in which we see people who are paying attention to everything other than tennis
