Most likely it just wouldn't see the other GB.

If the maximum capability of your PC's RAM is 1G, I don't think you can install 2G. It has to do with the motherboard. I wanted to increase memory on my Pentium III but was told the motherboard would not accept what I wanted to add.
If you have 1G RAM, that should be more than enough for you to get around with speed. Maybe you should look into removing anything unnecessary from RAM:
- Are you using a complex screensaver - it runs in the background and eats memory. I had fun with mine, then changed it to blank.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
1. From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart
2. click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup
3. Temporarily close Quick Launch:
Right-click on the Taskbar, click Toolbars, deselect Quick Launch
4. Open My Computer
right-click on C:
click Properties
click Tools, select Error Check (check all and fix), when finished click defrag & run.
5. click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)
6. Restart. Right-click on Taskbar, click Toolbars, select Quick Launch to restore
All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
- Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files and really slow things down.

an important thing to note:
the human eye can only recognize so much at once
you would never even be able to tell the difference, because you would not be using that many programs that would require that at the same time. You probably don't even have enough software to try that out on your computer.
There's just no need for it now - maybe in a couple of years, but by then there will be a better computer system anyway.

NOTHING,what will happen is that the system will use the 1gb of ram and discard the rest, the system will work fine as it is seeing only 1gb as it is the max,my suggestion is to change the board so you can utilise the ram and make sure that it max out above the 2gb

1 GB should do the job, you probably can't put the additional GB in your system.

I didn't know there was a maximum... it's supposed to take anything on the market, isn't it? Like sayin a dvd can only play two hour long movies.

The maximum for your computer is 1GB because that is all that your computer was created to recognize.

Your PC may not work properly, instead of efficiently. For help to attain the most efficiency from your system, please visit the web page I'm recommending, link attached. It's best to work within your configuration. For PC's, sometimes, less is best.
