Diabetes is not usually genetic but can be. Type two is later in life and generally has to do with , diet, exercise. If you watch your diet and exercise unless their is a genetic factor you will be OK.
Contrary to poplar belief sugar being the culprit is not your biggest problem. Carbohydrates turn to sugar in the body we take in an astronomical amount of carbs, which we don't need. Stay away from sugar eat a balance diet watching the whites(bread, rice, potato AKA:Carbs) and keep the evenings as carb free as possible.

As little is known on the exact mechanism by which type 1 diabetes develops, there are no preventive measures available for that form of diabetes. Some studies have attributed a protective effect of breastfeeding on the development of type 1 diabetes. In addition, breastfeeding might also be correlated with the prevention of type 2 of the disease in mothers.[16]
Type 2 diabetes can be prevented in part by maintaining a stable body weight through diet and exercise. Some studies have shown delayed progression to diabetes in predisposed patients through the use of metformin[17] or valsartan.[18]

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.
I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Diabetes is a failure of the pancreas to produce the correct amount of insulin to break down sugars. Therefore, it needs to be regulated, either by correcting diet or with insulin injections.Type I diabetes has its onset in childhood and is the kind you seem to be thinking of. Eating or liking sugar itself has nothing to do with the way the pancreas breaks down sugar, and this is the kind that needs to be regulated artificially, with injections of insulin, especially in Type I. Type II diabetes is often lifestyle-based, and appears later on in life (adolescence on). This can be caused by many factors, including genes and diet and exercise. To avoid becoming diabetic, watch the simple sugars you eat (candy, white flours) and eat more whole grains and lean protein. Exercise also helps a great deal, so exercise regularly.

There are 2 kinds of diabetes. One is caused by your body's inability to produce insulin. There is not much you can do to prevent that kind (it usually affects kids). The second kind has to do with your diet and genetics. Since you can't change your genes, the only thing you can do is change your diet now before you are diagnosed with it. It makes a big difference if you start early!

First it depends which diabetes you're talking about. Some are genetic and some are age related. You need to be at a normal weight, eat a healthy diet, drink lots of water to help your liver and that's about it. If someone in your family had it, you're bound to get it one way or another. And also refrain as much from Alcohol as you can,

i've read that limiting your carbs will help, but may not prevent diabetes...carbs like bread, rice and high glycemic index foods turn into glucose when not burned into energy...and unless you work out all the time, it will turn to glucose. stick to veggies, protein, and stay away from high calorie juices...just my 2c

If you're talking about adult onset, is it in your family genes? Keep your weight stable, balanced diet, watch for symptoms.
