The President is just one man and he does wield a tremendous amount of power, but no, I do not think he is the most powerful person in the US. The government is set up by a system of checks and balances. You have Congressional, Presidential, and Judicial and these three are designed to ensure the other does not have complete control.
But, if you ask me I think the most powerful man in the US and in the world for that matter is Bill Gates. A well designed computer virius in his next Windows installment could cripple the governments of the world.

No the president isnt the most powerful man in washington. Its the senators and reps. They hold the power to pass and override a presidential veto. The president is more powerful in influance. The legislative branch also can deadlock the president if neccisary. Latley although corruption on both parties and failure to agree has caused a no confidence atmosphere. What we need is a power to dissolve govt and call for new elections with incumbents disqualified to run or there hands in the meat grinder.

Hell yeah! The big corporations rule America. Money talks in this country and in this world. I bet groups like the NRA and the Church of latter Day Saints can make the president's job a lot harder if he/she does not conform to their wishes. Do not forget, a lot of international govenments carry a lot of clout also. The president is just a figure head. In Bush's case, because he so involved with big business, he may wield a little more power than the average president.

We are going to find out in the next two years. Sometimes the people decide an issue by their own votes. If the Democrats win the House of Representatives in Nov. then the Elite class will have a decision to make. Are they going to allow the Democrats to be be part of the decision making process in the Country or are they going to continue government without the Democrats by stealing the election again? If they steal the next election, there is going to be a reaction.

not that i disagree but which movies? and remember to be careful about the wave of insanse conspiracy theories that have hit about everything from 9/11 to Jesus Christ lately.
as for your question, you asked if he's the most powerful man and then spoke of organizations that are more powerful. are you curious about the most powerful individual or group of individuals?
also, one can mean a lot of things by 'power.' influence isn't neccessarily the same as power. the president still has immense power insofar as he is the president of the us, but w/ an approval raiting below 45%, im not sure how much influence he has on people's minds - and which is more important?
good question.

I think the current President is less powerful than his cabal of spin doctors. Probably Cheney and Rove wield more real power. I'm not to sure if there are secret organizations pulling the strings, though. Could be.

If I remember correctly, even GW received a summons for jury duty. I think the court system is more powerful if left in the hands of the most secretest group: "supreme" court

I was once told that the most powerful man in the US is Bill Gates...Not because of his money, but because he still privately owns all the licensing and copy rights to his soft ware. which if he decided to pull them would cripple every thing from the government and military down to the software that powers some watches.
