I have never been to a basketball tryout before, so i dont know how the coach will pick the people for the team. i am very good at rebounding, very good at post moves, an ok shot, not so good dribling, decent defender, and very very good at making any kind of shots in the key. So i need some tips on how to make the team.

right now he is looking for the ability to KEEP UP. quick. run fast, make lay ups and go passing on the 3 man weave... you better start doing line touches or sprints this week or you will be sore

Hustle as much as you can, guard well, dive on the floor and don't turn the ball over. Play aggressive, take good shots, set picks, cut, and rebound. Play tough, dive on the floor for loose balls and have fun-don't think too much. Some things that may make a difference is to be the first to practice and the last to leave. Coaches notice things like that. When the coach is talking never take your eyes off of him. Sprint to every drill. Be a good teammate and always support your teammates no matter what.

Just have fun. You can't do much about your skills now anyway. . . most of your work should have been done about two months ago so go out and do your best.

The Answers above are pretty much on target in what coaches look at. But it's very helpful to show your kind of stats or ratings should i say of what your good at. I mean if your tall then all of what you explained is pretty much a great Power Foward or Center. But if your not tall and you are pretty short looking to play the guard position. You should pretty much work on your defense since thats all you got.

But if you looking for that big man spot your right on target for what a coach wants. Just practice and improve your weakness in dribbling. And perfect your strengths like rebounds and defending. A coach always wants a player who hustles and defends plus you have good post play by the way you talk about it so youre good to go!!!!you dont really need the dribbling thats what the guards are for!!!!

I have played an coached. I would suggest to do your best, try hard and keep up your grades.
When I was on the team, I always did 2 a days. I would get up every morning and run. After school, we had 2 hour practices. Other than that, watch as much basketball as you can. It helps your brain know where/what to do.

Hustle more then ever, TALK loud on defense, be a team player, and whatever you best thing is like if its rebounding, try to get ever rebound or if your a point make the smart play not the easy play. the best you ever have. Also I've been everything on a team, the hustler, scorer , coach you name it.

Hustle! A lot! Coaches notice things like that. You may not be the best one out there, but if you work harder than everyone else you will be pretty much guaranteed a spot. Unless it is for the L.A. lakers then you may have to get by on talent alone.

Take your time dribling. Just try your best and dont be in a hurry. They will know you want to play if you try your hardest. I played. I wasnt that good at driblin either but not everyone need to be that good at that. Good luck

its simple. instead of trying to do things that you arent sure about, try doing things that you are good at. Obviously, you are a good post player. try to call for the ball in the post and put some moves on your defender. maybe fake a spin one way and go the other. a favorite post move of mine is faking a behind the back pass and laying it in with style. just do what you can, and give it your all.

Start running, practice your shot, and do shuffles (get low and go side to side, from a line to line, don't cross your feet), and at the tryout do your best. If you don't give up and show promise, coaches will notice if you have ability. I think you can do it. Never give up on yourself.
