most jacks you have to wind your hand in a clock like motion to get the jack to lift the car up what happened to the simple up and down easy way from a few years ago? makes no since to me what was this person thinking when he invented this type of jack.

the jacks of yesterday would tear the bumper off of today's car. A scissors jack is the only thing small enough to get under the axle of a car

Because too many idiots forgot to put the bumper jack on the "chink" where they were supposed to, and the jack failed and the car fell down and the idiots sued the car companies - the newer jacks are safer.

I agree. Sometimes I buy another jack and use it instead. If everyone purchased their car based on the virtues of the tire jack, you can bet they would be gold-plated works of art with functionality to match.

The jack you are talking about is a bumper jack. Most modern cars do not have sturdy steel bumpers anymore so you will have to live with 'progress.'

its a cheap and effective way of doing the survivorman thing for changing a tire, they suck, i haul my own jack around

well think about it...it would make since to make wheels hard to get off so they wont fall off easily while you're drivin
