Yeah... when we do the assignments we have to be very careful else the whole paper will have 'white spot' (liquid paper) or the paper might be hold after the 'ink eraser'!! Still remember my teacher said, if the assignment is untidy, marks will be deducted!
In the library, at the back of every books must have a card and each time the book been taken, the card will be removed to our 'library membership pocket card'. Date of borrow and date of return will be stamp at the card and also the sheet of small paper behind the book!
I doesn't know wheather the same system is still in pratice because for years i have not been to public library...
That was our golden old time. I used to smile whenever i thought of it...!!

When I graduated from high school the school was just beginning to get computers with Word Perfect on it for the teachers in which they allowed us to use to do our senior term papers. We did take typing on type writers rather than computers. We just got what was then called the gopher system that hooked our library up with other libraries in the area. However, our library was on a card catalogue as well as the college library I went to. I took my son to the library and really missed seeing the card catalogue!! Amazing how far things have come in such a short time.

Not only old enough for that, but also old enough to remember when there were no calculators. Heavy duty engineering math and spherical trigonometry had to be done with 11 figure logarithms !
I must say , I rather enjoyed the challenge of it, and could probably still do it without too much trouble. BUT, the computer programs are so much quicker.
The only trouble with the computer, is that unless you are writing your own programs, you don't get the same mental work-out as the "old" methods provided.
Good question though...... brings back memories ...... good and bad !

Me. We didn't even own a typewriter, either. Also a thing of the past, at least at the school I work in, are those cards in the back of the library books. Everything has a barcode. Progress.

I never did catch on to using that fool card system, and I learned to type on a manual typewriter. If I remember correctly, we all thought we were on the cutting edge of technology.

Yes, I know exactly what your saying. When I did my research paper, I had index cards of notes (taken from all those card catalog filed books) all over the living room floor. But, you know, I'd do it again if we didn't have to live in such a fast-pace world. It sort of overwhelms me at times. Know what I mean?

If your asken who wants to go back, then only if we can take the puta, and especially spell check and gramatic. I have a masters but it was a real hard thing to do with a disability in the english area.. If I went back that far I'd have to spend a lot of time goin roun to warn unions of the coming union busting tactics. I always hated those card thingys. Us dylexics have a hard time looken up stuff in the phone book.
