Just eat a fiber rich diet. Lots of fruits and vegetables. high fiber cereal, whole grins, etc. Try to get at least 25-35 grams of fiber per day. Hint: Try to add fiber rich foods slowly, or you will end up with diarrhea!

Eating foods high in natural fiber is a good start. Don't try to do it the easy way by chewing a bunch of fiber pills--that'll just earn you a quick trip to the bathroom without really cleansing anything. :) Beans have an extremely high fiber content, as well as things like oatmeal, flax seed meal (wich you can sprinkle on your cereal) and whole wheat procucts, just to name a few. Doing the herbal pills and teas is generally a very intensive treatment, and while it can be very effective, you often have to dedicate several days to a week for the full effect, and you have to stick pretty close to the toilet in some cases. :) Adding natural fiber to your diet and drinking at least 8 (8oz) glasses of water a day will accomplish the same thing, just a little more slowly. The American Dietetic Association recommends that we get 20 to 35 grams of fiber per day, though there is no actual RDA established for fiber intake. Hope this helps. Good luck!
