Tivo because you can take it with you when you move and you will not lose your recorded shows. I still have the infamous Super Bowl recorded with Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" and I have moved three times since then.

Tito has a really simple and easy to use interface. It makes suggestions on shows you might like based on your viewing habits. Also, you can record shows at least two weeks into the future. If you have high speed Internet you can log on to TiVo's web site to set your TiVo to record a show for you while you are out. Their staff is very friendly and helpful over the phone. An 80 hour model is good for two people with plenty of room left over. Their web site is currently offering a package where you rent the TiVo like you would a cable box. It is a good way to try the service out. Good luck. One you go TiVo you'll never go back. You life and schedule will no longer revolve around prime time television. You can no finally control your TV.

This is like asking if Direct TV is better than satellite television. Tivo is a brand of DVR (digital video recorder). Tivo recorders are linked to a service that tracks programing schedules and automatically records programs whenever they are broadcast. I would prefer a DVR that works more like a traditional VCR and does not track my viewing habits.

It depends what cable service you have. I personally have Dish and Tivo and it works very well and I am very happy with it. But many people I know have the Comcast DVR and they say it works extremely well. I would pick Tivo simply for it's ease of use and constant reliability.

The idea of paying for a service when I know that I don't have to is irritating. This is better.

There is an Accurian Harddrive/DVD recorder that has an 80gb hardrive capable of recording 100 hours of video. You program it to record whatever show you want to. It's cooler because if you really like it then record it to a DVD.

I was thinking of a great Christmas gift, have it record your freind's favorite show and then give it give them season x on Dvd as a gift.
