Both books, written over a thousand years ago, advocate things that most of their followers don't practice anymore.

So, it's a matter of looking at the vast majority of the people living their daily lives, and what they do. And over 98% of both religions' populations are peacful.

Hi I'm Jewish and no nearly nothing about the religious practices of Islam but I'd like to share a few ideas to consider. First you have many Muslim clerics advocating the death and murder of innocent civilians that are not Muslim. You have muslims rioting over slights to their religion. You have so called religious Muslims advocating the murder of innocent people. You have Muslim Shiites and Sunnis killing each other over differences in religious practices in Iraq. The sum totlal that indicates that Islam cannot be a religion of peace no matter how they try to spin their theology.

Now Judaism on the other hand has always been a religion of peace. Judaic rabbis and scholors often argue over points of religious practice, but NEVER has any Jewish rabbis, ever advocated violent acts against people in any form. This is not true of Muslim religious leaders. It's quite a common practice with them. The eye for an eye business has been misinterpreted. It has to do with ethical business practices. In the history of judaism no one has ever lost their eye because of that passage from earliest times.

Even amongst Jewish laymen who have been involved in questionable activities such as Jewish gangsters such as Bugsy Segal or Meyer Lansky, they were a lot more moderate in their thinking than Italian or Irish gangsters. I think most historians would agree if Leon Trotsky a Jew had gained power after Lenin in the Soviet Union rather than Stalin, a Georgian than Russia would not have experienced the purges of the 1930s or 40s.

I think the biggest fear of most Muslim leaders is not our response to terror attacks because to them life is cheap, but Christian missionaries. Let a kinder more humane message be told in Muslim countries and you would see mass conversions away from that "religion of peace"

religion is like anything, it can be used for good or evil according to how it is taught and applied.

It would appear that many within Islam esp in the middle east live by a more literal version of the wording. Plus the middle east has a different culture, one where things are settled with killing someone and then in return it is a matter of honor and you have to kill one of theirs,

Image that the Democrats and Republicians would use violence instead of voting and killing each other instead of sueing in court. Just think of what happened if Kerry had decided to kill Bush instead of sueing the election results

"YOU SHALL KNOW THEM BY THIER FRIUT!" So you be the judge, who is burning catholic churches all over , who burned Paris over an animated drawing, who is suicide murdering innocent people all over the world? mohammed was a pedophile and a homicidal maniac.. his youngest wife was 6,, he tried to conquer the world and started the crusades (i guess he didn't expect christians to fight back) and his followers have been at war against the civilized world ever since.. One of Jesus' titles is Prince of Peace, He stayed single and gave his life as ransom from the hold of sin upon your life, He said "if thine enemy smite you on the cheek, turn ye the other also", He said,"Love them that revile and persecute you" and "Love thine enemy", He drove the crooks and thieves out of the temple, He healed all who came to Him, He forgave every one who asked of thier sins.. He died for a world that hated Him..

Muslims are the people, and Islam is the name of the religion. No disrespect to you, just thought to point that out.

Islam has peace in it just as any other religion, but it has violence in it as well. These days people are much more focused on the violence side and quotes and forgoing the peace side. It also has the not so peaceful side which they want to convert the whole world to Islam. To them, they are not doing it out of hate, but because they believe they are on the right path, and they want to bring all of us on it, or else will be considered under their protection, aka second class citizen. Those certain people do not want to change with the time, and still want to live as their Prophet lived hundreds years ago!
They do have peace in their religion, but it is not equal. As one imam said: there is no difference between color, race, gender, etc., but when it comes to religion, the non believers one day will be living as Muslims or under the protection of Muslims. Wonder!! if the ruling are Muslims! and all other non Muslims are in the protection of the Muslims, then who are they going to protect the non Muslims from? themselves?

when Jesus Christ came, He taught people to love one another and to treat others as one wish to be treated etc.

In some way you have truth in what you are saying, and that is why no one no matter how much they think they understand religion, we will still remain, we will never know the whole truth.

I asked several religious people, from differnet faith. Why is religion so complicated? instead of bringing people together. It separates them.
Almost all of them, answered the same. "So as people would want to know more, curiosity of the animal in us."

the abrahamic religions (judaism, christianity, islam) are totally dysfunctional. they are all militant, and they all claim that their god says it is okay to kill everybody else and take their possessions.

really sad. maybe someday people will outgrow the old superstitions and live together peacefully.
