I lived there for 5 years...I liked it. On the plus side, the climate there is really good, although in the Fall it is "monsoon" season, kind of strange...it will be clear, then rain a downpour, then be clear again soon after (just for a short season), but they have things called "arroyos" they are big concrete canals to get the water out fast. On the east side of town are the Sandia Mountains ---they are beautiful!!! and on the back side you can drive up there and get an awesome view overlooking the city! also if you wanted you can take the world's longest tram to the top...(there is also a restaurant up there called High Finance or something...) As far as restaurants there are many good Mexican ones...one thing you will notice is that they put chile peppers on a lot of things...I really miss green chiles on my hamburgers and pizza (it grows on you...mmmm).
and at the base of the mountains is a cool biking trail that was fun to go on, oh also "Sandia" means "watermelon" in Spanish ---the mountains are named that because of the color they turn when the sun sets (they turn a pink-purple color) like a watermelon color...very nice sunsets too....
As far as bad stuff...the gangs and wanna be gangsters driving around....but there are different sections of town to be in that are good and there are some sections to avoid ---there is even a section called "The war zone"....Generally speaking the closer you get to the mountains the better the area...as far as the east side and on the west side it was expanding ever and ever further west...so I imagine there are new homes on that side too that would be nice...as far as the north side ...that also is good you run into a fast growing town called Rio Rancho ...it had been growing fast there and was nice...also on north was city named "Placitas" ?sp. ...it was very nice but very expensive...
Overall it was one of my favorite places to live! Good luck!

It depends what you wanna do? Santa Fe is one hour away from you. Four Corners not too far. Every October, in Albuquerque, they have a Hot Air Balloon Festival. There is , i think, called Sandy tram, you can ski there. I am sure , you can find what to do. Good luck and have fun!!!
