I always feel better when I get between 6-7 hours of sleep, but I will sleep 9-10 hours if possible and I notice on those days I feel horrible. So yeah, I guess you can sleep too much. It makes you feel more tired and crappy!

Base on previuos medical findings, a sleep of 10 hours or more contributes to higher possibility in developing heart diseases. And besides, older people biologicaly tend to need atleast 6 hours of sleep a day. The buttomline, if you still feel invigorated and could last the whole day without getting sleepy but rather actively living life, then you're having a regular goodnight sleep and rest. Better to drink milk also before bed, it has some substance which enables the body to sleep and rest more efficiently after a long day.

Your supposed to sleep 8 the reason you get 8-10 without an alarm clock is because you normally don't get enough sleep.

My wife sleeps 8-10 hours a day for the last 5 years. It's part of her normal sleep pattern.
Those of us who don't get that much on an every day basis, end up feeling "wasted" if we try and do it more than once a day on a regular basis.
(It's because we aren't used to it.)

Usually experts recommend 8 hours of sleep. Even though you sleep 5 to 6 an dyou feel fine if you kept it up it would eventually get to you. So I say stick to 8.
Thank You

Yes you can have too much sleep. I always feel really groggy and get bad headaches when i have too much sleep.
I think the amount of sleep you need differs from person to person but generally it is best to get 8 hours a night.

5 or 6 hours a night is not enough, and you are sleep deprived. that's why you can "catch up" and probably sleep 8 or 10 hours.
I bet you sleep long on the weekends?
I don't know how much is too much, but 8 is usually enough for me, and if I wake up with a headache, I know I've slept too long.
you won't need as much as you age.
