I think it has a lot to do with the genes, but to some extent you can bulk up. I used to be really skinny, but with age, marriage, and exercise, I think I put on more weight, and people don't consider me skinny any more. Another thought is that you need to examine your lifestyle. If you are a person who doesn't sleep much or use lots of energy, then chances are you won't gain much weight. So getting into a regular and healthy routine can help you with gaining weight and bulking up. Plus, having a healthy and positive attitude and perspective in life can spice it up.

well, although genetics do play a large role in how your develop, your personal metabloic rate may have more to do with it. What I mean by this is that your body has a natural ability to burn fat at a faster rate than most others, so you remain thin no matter how much you eat. The secret to weight gain is increasing your caloric intake to about 3000 calories per day, and lift heavy weights. Light weights lifted repeatedly will help to define you, but heavier weights with lower repititions will bulk you up. There are some really good weight gain shakes that you can get from the local gym, or health food store, such as GNC. I used weight gain 3000 from GNC and averaged a pound per day. I went from 165 to 195 in a month. However, I also ate 3 good meals per day, and did a lot of physical activity. Good luck.

it depends on the types of food you eat and the exercises you do. I was skinny and small until after high school, then I went to work at a garbage company lifting all the time. I bulked up real quick and started to lift weights along with working.
