The US gets 40% of its oil from the US
It gets an additional 35% of its oil from Canada and Mexico
The next largest contributer is Saudi Arabia.
Then there are two other countries, non-Middle Eastern, one of which is Venuzela.
Then comes Iraq at a distant 7th.
Even if the final 4 nations are roughly equal in their exports, Iraq only produces 6% of all US oil imports. On top of all that, the administration is trying to drill in ANWAR and develop alternative fuesl. I just can't see how it is about oil.

you morons are definitely as ignorant as the people behind the curent administration think. as far as oil goes, getting cheap oil to the people is not their priority. youre a total idiot if you think that the government's aim is to give the american people gasoline at reasonable prices. EXPENSIVE oil is the objective of the commodities boss of the illuminati. why do you think the price of gasoline goes up every year at the beginning of summer, and jumps again at the beginning of winter? the prices come down a little bit later on, but only drop a cent or two for every 10 cent price hike. theres also the oil companies excuse that they take risks to get the oil to market from a war zone. that adds some more to the oil bill. all they have to do to raise the price of oil by 5.00 a barrel is hire some "terrorists" to attack an oil refinery or bomb a pipeline. all they have to do to get people to praise the government that the oil company likes is to announce a new oil find somewhere. your daughter will have to pay upward of 5.00 per gallon of gasoline. and by that time the driving age will be 18 anyway.

If we are, in fact, running Iraq by proxy, then why the hell is America going broke paying for this useless fight? Weren't we promised the war "would pay for itself"? The implication always was that the oil would be our payback.....all I see is higher fuel prices...this winter will be one of sky high heating fuel prices. Iraq's oil? We don't even get a discount from OPEC. Are you nuts!
Your 12 yr. old better plan to be a bank robber t o pay for her traveling and heating expenses unless we get smart and pour our money and brainpower into energy research.

If your daughter still needs that gas when she turns 16 then once again a free-market economy has failed the American consumer. Fuel efficient technologies should be mainstream within that time, reducing significantly the need for gasoline, and that's only if alternative fuels such as hydrogen cells haven't begun to hit the market. Rather than securing a short term band aid we need to be focusing on a long term solution to this problem.
