I would go from 4 feet up with a metal chimany or alike if mortar is not possible to be used again. If this too is possible, chiney is 3x3x3x3 feet around.
chimany is 140 years old.

It sounds like it has crumbled too much for a quick fix. You'll have to carefully remove the brick and reset it with new mortar.

When you remove the bricks, clean the remaining mortar off them and stack them in such a way that you can place them back where they came from. This way you won't have to worry about cutting a brick or changing the appearance of the chimney too much....Also remember to level the bricks when you re-install them

Carefully remove loose bricks and replace with fresh mortar...

put the mortar back in it you can take a plastic bagy and cut the corner off after you put the mortar in it then put the mortar in the crack
