it just meens that there anticonformests(trust me i am one)
and if the idiots answering would take the time to look it up theyd know that...and as for the cloths we dont just do it for atention maybe the wanabe "goths" do but we dont for instents i only wear stuff that makes me look like a goth when im trying to meet other goths and on spesial acaisens...and the depresion thing alot of us just have a darker side that comes out more often.

Being goth has nothing to do with what clothes you wear or music you listen to, it is a way of thinking and seeing the world. The clothes that goths wear and the music that goths listen to is just a reflection of that mindset. Goths see that there is extreme pain and evil in the world, along with the good. Instead of condemning it or ignoring it, goths accept these things as a part of life and try and enjoy the good along with the bad, since they can't stop the bad from happening. They are not obsessed with death, they just accept it as an inevitability. They do not try and cause more pain in their (or anybody else's) lives, since there is plenty to start with. Goths tend to be kind, intelligent, non-violent, emotional, and artistic.

Goths are hardly non-conformists...because they conform to this other culture.
They are typically people who dont have a strong sense of personal identity so they adopt one they think makes a statement. Most didnt get enough attention as children so they want other people to notice them...and are willing to accept that the only reason they are seen is because of the weird clothes, jewelry etc.
Rea, confident people are noticed because of who they are and what they do, not because of some costume they wear.

It's a personal choice. People could be introduced to it through firends, movies ect and it can grow on them just like anything else.

It helps to be overweight, mis-understood, and ugly. But those are just to start. You must also purchase a large quantity of black clothing, and it doesn't hurt to have an odd pet, like a ferret.

well it is prob. the reason people stay depressed and want to be in eternal darkness that they start to wear nothing but depressing attire and listen to things that make u want to die
