Ethical; to do with Ethics.

1. pertaining to or dealing with morals or the principles of morality; pertaining to right and wrong in conduct.

2. being in accordance with the rules or standards for right conduct or practice, esp. the standards of a profession: It was not considered ethical for physicians to advertise

Ethical basically means to do with, what is right and wrong, based on morality. It would have helped if you had expanded a bit on what context it was used in marketing class, but I can fetch a guess that it has to do with the ethics of marketing, what is right and wrong in marketing, referring either to doing it correctly or not being immoral (i.e. It is not ethical for respected physicians to advertise and endorse products).

What Does Ethical Mean

Ethical means doing the right thing. You can fancy it up a whole lot, but that's basically what it means.
It isn't ethical to lie about stocks.
It isn't ethical to sell stuff to others that you wouldn't buy yourself.
It isn't ethical to take a kick back.
It isn't ethical to misrepresent your merchandise, or to promise people full refunds when you know that will never happen.
and so on.
Just a suggestion. Next time they use a word in class and you don't understand it, don't go with kind of know what it means. Grab a dictionary and find out. Guessing at words can land you in a lot of trouble. Especially when it comes time for exams.

That doesn't surprise me. They used to teach it in schools. But now young people think it is OK to lye, cheat ,steal, murder and anything else the think they can get away with. The society as a whole is just a bunch of rotten fruit
not worth anything because it has no ethical values. People don't even know what ethical means.

For example, you work for a restaurant that has a secret cookie recipe. The company does really well and makes lots of money.
You decide that you want to make cookies on the side from your house. You have all the equipment and supplies. You start making cookies on the weekend and sell to customers after running ads in the newspaper. You, essentially, are competing with your employer for the sale of cookies. You are "stealing" sales from your employer. Since your employer did not approve of this, you could be sued. Your actions for secretly making money from your employers recipe are viewed as "unethical"
or not good or right. Lieing, cheating, stealing, borrowing without permission, secret behavior,,...etc is all unethical behavior in business. When you do these things you damage your reputation. Put simply, be honest, be right, don't do the wrong things. Treat others like you want to be treated. Hope this helps.
