You cannot be Serious, In recommending Best Buy's Geek Squad, They will mess it up worse than it is. You might as well take a gun and shoot the computer than take it to the Geek Squad, they are the most overrated idiots - in the Tech Field. My 13 yr. Old Girl knows more than they do.

Check with your PC Manufacture for the Beep Codes for the Specific Computer you have, you cannot get the proper help in a Question/Answer Forum without causing further damage, Identify the Beep Codes, and then once this is done, you will know the specific problem to correct. Good Luck

Okay, this is a terrible terrible thing!
first thing let me provide a breif explanation, people above did an okay job. These beeps indicate hardware different combos mean different things. There are 3 major manufacturers who make these chips and each beep means a different thing for each manufacturer (no standards).

For AMI Bios, one beep means a DRAM refresh failure, this usually indicates a problem with the motherboard or the ram.

For Phoenix Bios, this indicates a system failure.

For Award Bios, this indicates a memory failure.

What you need to do....
Before calling for help, ask yourself if you changed anything. Did you install more ram or open your case and touch the motherboard?

Last result...
Call help, if the pc is under warranty call quick!

Typically the easiest answer is that it's a memory problem. If you have recently added/removed/exchanged the memory this would be the very first culprit to the problem. It is possible the memory has also failed. That would be the first thing to check. Secondly a short in one of the PCI/AGP cards can cause this. Notoriously a modem after a close lightning strike will also cause the beeping. This is also caused by a dysfunctional video card. Hope this helps.

I think what you're talking about happened to a friend of mine and i think what happened was the beeping sound was an alarm telling that the fan is making the computer too hot. I would take it in to a trusted computer store to have them look at it. I would recommend the Geek Squad from Best Buy if you have one available.

computer beeps are of two types short and long. If you listen carefully, they have a beep code. You have to listen and note down, how many beeps, short or long. Then look into the following page for the beep code of your BIOS. and find out the error they point to.

The beeping is a message stating what is causing the error. Listen to the number of beeps and look up your motherboard manual to see what it correspond to.

Example:
x number of beeps maybe your motherboard signaling a graphic card error.
y number of beeps maybe your motherboard signaling a processor error.
z number of beeps maybe your motherboard signaling a thermal problem.
And so on.
