not sure how serious you so but here are some ideas that he could appreicate: Go for the sporting goods gift card or if he has a favorite team memoribilia from them is good. Even take him to a pro base ball game. My daughter gave her boyfriend when he turned 18 a surprise party at Hooters. I think that was a huge sacrifice for her! She also baked him a cake. Good luck!

You could give him a book on baseball or get together for a baseball game ( your treat) Or have an evening at the movies to see one of the latest blockbusters, Or a good pair of running shoes if you can afford it or a jogging outfit since he is into sport. The day should be enjoyed by both of you. Perhaps a dinner somewhere in your price range. Have a very nice time and Good birthday to him. You are very thoughtful.
