I am a Chinese student who want to apply to study in Harvard. I want to know what does Harvard think is most important? Self-teaching ability? English level? Academic ability? Creative thinking? Do they require a foreign student to pass the SAT test?

Why are you asking this here. You should go to the Harvard web site!

You should understand that it costs a LOT of money to go to Harvard. About $45,000 each year. And that does not include the costs of living in the USA when school is not in session. Cambridge is an expensive city to live in. And, Harvard is the most important university in the USA, So, almost every really good student in the USA considers applying there. They receive tens of thousands of applications from the very best students in the USA and they turn down over 90% of them.

It is not impossible to get into Harvard, but it is almost impossible! So, you will have to convince the people at Harvard that you are so much better than all those other 1000s of kids, that they should turn them down and choose you.

You need to take the SAT and get a very high score, because otherwise, how will they know whether you are well educated or not. THey probably dont know anything about your high school so they cant tell from your grades.

There are over 2000 different universities in the USA.You should take a look around and see if one of the others matches what you want to do.

Harvard would want to see you excell in all of these areas. They may not require the SAT, but you probably need to pass or achieve a particular score on the TOEFL--Test of English as a Foreign Language.

According to Harvard's undergrad international admissions guidelines the SAT is required:

For students from other countries, you likely have to be even better than American applicants in your scholastic aptitude so one of the top students from your school, for sure. If you have won some national or international scholastic competition, that would be extremely helpful.

You may get a lot out of reading this article to get an idea of other schools that could be very helpful for your education:

They require excellence in all areas. It's very competitive so you need to do something that will set your application apart from the rest.
