.000874 seconds

12 inches = 1 foot therefore, if it travels 1144 ft/second it travels on foot in 1/1144 seconds. 1/1144 = 0.000874 seconds. This is equal to 874 microseconds.

A microsecond is one one millionth of a second.

By contrast, "the blink of an eye" is about 52 milliseconds (.052 seconds) on average. So to say that it travels 12 inches "in the blink of an eye" would be misleading. The bullet travels 12 inches in 1/60 the blink of an eye.

first, u need to convert all the value of 1144 feet per second and 12 inches into base unit ms^-1 and m respectively.
Then u use the equation of free fall body which is
s=ut-0.5gt^2 which is u = initial velocity of the bullet , s = distance travelled and t = time taken to travel
then you will get the value of the time

wow....I'm only in Physics .0001. I'm sorry but we haven't learning complicatered formlas like dat one. If only I knew how many inches where in a foot i could help you. Because i can tell you that it will go 1 foot in .0008741 seconds. But to convert that from 1 foot to 12 inches, no way.

I suppose 1/1144 of a second: but then you did not give any details at all about the firing piece - rifle or pistol ? length of barrel ? elevation of the barrel ? and other parameters - you should know that!
