ok... i'm just gonna jot down the main points:
-Isadora Duncan founded it in the US
-a similar modern movement occured in Germany at the same time it did in the US
-it was a rebellion on ballet
-typically done in bare feet
-can be ANYTHING

Modern dance is a mixture of ballet and jazz movements. A characteristic of modern dance is the weight transfer i.e. from one leg to the other ...the whole body movement concentrates on its execution (torso/arms move into the direction the legs are heading for) ..it is executed in a manner that it seems continuous and going into a certain direction...never stagnant....

oh im taking modern in school now....


its a way of self expression, by movement of the body...but in a more lose way than other types of dance.
