I think most everyone missed that this is in the Europe catagory. Well the first time I backpacked around Europe I went to Austria (Salzburg and Vienna), Budapest, Prague, Venice, Florance, Rome, Nice. I have since also backpacked in Spain and recommend that as well. It depends how much time you have. I think you would usually start off in Amsterdam, you could go down through France and see Paris and then hit Spain and Portigal. I really like Seville and the Costa del Sol. Ibiza is pretty cool to if you want to Party. You can go along the cost to Barcalona and then into France and go to Nice. Nice is a pretty good spot. Then you can hit Italy. I love Florance and Rome. There is so much to see in Rome. If you want you can continue south and even take a ferry to Greece and Croatia is getting popular. I think Salzburg Austria is a good Backpacking place. It has that whole Sound of Music thing but with lots of cool beer gardens. I highly recomment Budapest and Prague for something different and good prices. I haven't spent much time traveling much north of there which is funny because I have lived in Germany and currently live in Copenhagen. I actually think Copenhagen is a place more backpackers should hit. It is pretty crazy downtown on the weekends and we have this place called Christiania that is like this pot smoking hippy commune in the middle of the city. It is so weird.

Hope you have fun.

pictured rocks, national lakeshore. in michigan's UP is gorgeous. waterfalls are everywhere. and the cliffs are amazing. the water is crystal clear. the trail, though, is at times, just a foot away from a 250 foot drop. also, the trail can be quite challenging, if u travel the whole thing.
